Customer Reviews & Ratings
Uber Eats claims I once ordered the Pu Pu Platter yet suspiciously there's no review or photo. Was I ashamed of having that many calories? I'll investigate further. Curry shrimp with onion is a standby, with energetic spices and more vegetable diversity than advertised. Tonight I tried the bean curd Szechuan style; while less spicy less than expected I enjoyed the sauce and vegetables, plus the "meaty" tofu preparation. Fortune has more single digit price items than anyone else in town, and is at or near first place in hours of availability.
Ordered some solid Chinese food while traveling on business . I ordered a combo plate with fried rice, egg roll, and boneless bbq pork. It all was very good, much better than what we had when we lived in Kentucky. The food was delivered quickly and hot. Can't speak to the ambiance as it was takeout.
Honestly, best Chinese food we've had in New Jersey. We order all the time and it never disappoints.
I learned a long time ago that it's hard to find good Chinese food on Yelp. Even though reviews are genuinely a great way to find many restaurants, finding anything delivery-heavy restaurant seems to be a big challenge. A lot of the reviews get caught up in delivery issues, often through third party apps. Had I not been walking by one day, I never would have known to try this. This restaurant passed every litmus test I have for a Chinese restaurant that I learned from working in one a lifetime ago. First, there was a kid doing their homework at the table. That's a big green flag. This means that this is a real family run spot and, with their kid at the restaurant, you know the family means business. But if they don't have kids, how else can you tell? Second, it passed the eggroll test. If you walk in at a random time and order an eggroll you'll know whether this is a good place to go to. Why? An eggroll will tell you if their oil is old, if a relatively simple dish is awry, and if they pay attention while cooking (is it overcooked, greasy, hard as a rock? If so, walk!). Their eggrolls were phenomenal! Third, there are regulars coming and going. You don't survive as a restaurant without regulars. Fourth, is the person at the phone/register a little stressed and maybe comes across as rude sometimes? Sounds counterintuitive but hear me out: If they're stressed it's because they're busy (usually) and that's a great sign. All of these led me to try their food almost immediately after the eggroll test. Legitimately got back to my apartment and placed an order. A GREAT thing is that they are SUPER accommodating to food allergies and diets. They have a diet menu so you can find things that are low carb/keto, and if you mention a gluten allergy they will take it extremely seriously. Thankfully it's not me with the allergy, but my partner. We've been able to *safely* order from Fortune and have one of the best Chinese take out's in Jersey City repeatedly, without fail. Huge recommendation to anyone in the area.
